Back in May, I had the honor to photograph the Southern Splendor Ball at the Birmingham Museum of Art. This black-tie affair is for their top donors, and I was so excited to be a tiny part of this spectacular event. I went to the museum, the night before the ball, for a run through. Immediately as I walked in, I was greeted by the sweet aroma of hundreds of gardenias! The florists were still working on arrangements, but even incomplete, they were amazing!
The night of the event, I wore an elegant black Ralph Lauren gown and pulled my hair up into a simple up-do. I’ve never had to dress like this for a shoot and it was really fun to feel like a princess, even though I was working! Walking into the museum was breathtaking. The floral arrangements were exquisite! Full of Southern greenery and flowers. The place settings sparkled and were only outdone by the gorgeous artwork in the galleries. The dance floor was set up upstairs and it was truly magical! I was swooning over the chandeliers and all the twinkle lights! Every detail was perfect. And of course, it radiated with Southern style!
As the guests arrived, I loved hearing their “oohs and ahhs”. You could feel the excitement in the air! They enjoyed cocktail hour upstairs, then came down for an amazing 4 course meal prepared by Galley & Garden Chef James Boyce. After dinner, it was time to party! The band, Surround Sound Band, was absolutely amazing and they really knew how to put on a show! It was such a fun evening, and I will forever be grateful that I got to be there and capture these lovely images.
